Twenty Years of Putting Their Faith in Caring: Michelle Barr

Cabot, PA – For many people, after working in a certain field for so many years, they choose to stop “doing” and start teaching. Director of Staff Development and Infection Control Michelle Barr still does both – with a little more emphasis on the teaching side.

Barr came to Concordia over 20 years ago after being referred by a friend who worked for the organization as a nurse. For 15+ years she dealt with patients directly – a job she found very gratifying. Later down the line, she found her responsibilities shifting into other areas, particularly training and developing staff.

While she has always loved the joy of being around her co-workers, these days one of the most rewarding aspects of her job is training the nurse’s aide classes.

For her years of commitment to Concordia, Barr was given a special gift at the 2007 employee Christmas party: a big screen T.V. She said it has been great sharing the gift with her loved ones.

One special memory Barr has of Concordia took place at an Oktoberfest many years ago. She was there with her son, who was very young at the time, when former Concordia Chaplain Lorenz Blankenbuehler told her that these would be the best years of her life. She said that day has stuck with her for a very long time.

Barr lives in Butler with her son Brandon and her dog “Ginger.” She enjoys walking, reading, music, and traveling.
