In-Home Hospice Care
Good Samaritan Hospice, a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, follows a philosophy that affirms life and views dying as a natural process that can be met with dignity. Through Hospice care, patients have the opportunity to make their own decisions about how and where they wish to spend the remainder of their lives.
Good Samaritan Hospice is the only nonprofit, free-standing hospice founded on Christian principles serving Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler and northern Westmoreland counties. Good Samaritan Hospice not only believes, but also promotes hospice care as a ministry.
Hospice can improve the patient’s quality of life when curative treatments are no longer being administered. It provides comfort through pain control and symptom management while offering emotional, social and spiritual support for the patient and family, individually and as a unit.
Spiritual care and grief counseling services are provided to the patient and their family and bereavement care is provided through individual and group counseling for at least a year thereafter. Our grief support groups are available free of charge to any person who has lost a loved one.
In addition to caring for our patients in their homes or their families’ home, care is also provided at The Good Samaritan Hospice House in Wexford and our Good Samaritan Inpatient Unit at the Lund Care Center in Cabot. Built for those who are unable to safely remain in their own homes at end of life, those residents receive 24-hour care by compassionate team members.
For more information on any services offered by Good Samaritan Hospice, please call 1.800.720.2557.
Patients in a hospital or skilled nursing facility must request Good Samaritan Hospice to avoid being discharged to another hospice care provider who may not offer the extensive services or superior quality provided by Good Samaritan Hospice.
