Programs and Missions

General Fund

“All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.” - Acts 4:32

Concordia annually receives thousands of dollars of general gifts to be used by the organization as it sees fit. Gifts to this fund are used for the betterment of Concordia and are non-specific in nature.

Gifts come in many forms, including cash, stocks, bonds, mutual fund shares, gifts-in-kind (i.e.: clothes, craft supplies and food), and used cars, which are then auctioned to the highest bidder. Concordia has even had its own employees cash in sick, vacation, or personal days with the value of those days donated to the organization.

Good Samaritan Endowment Fund

“He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done.” - Proverbs 19:17

Established in the early 1990s, the Good Samaritan Endowment Fund has provided Concordia with the means to support hundreds of residents who do not have sufficient resources to pay for the full cost of their care.

Funds such as these have traditionally been referred to as “charity care” funds. They are exclusively used to help offset the financial shortfalls between residents’ resources and the cost of care.

For more information on the Good Samaritan Endowment Fund and how you can make a difference in the lives of our residents, call the Office of Development at 724.352.1571, ext. 8363 or toll free at 1.888.352.1571.

Staff Appreciation Fund

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." - Luke 6:38

The second principle of Concordia’s Statement of Values is to value employees. Concordia Lutheran Ministries has over 1000 employees carrying out the organizational mission and vision on a daily basis. These dedicated individuals are the reason for our outstanding reputation in the western Pennsylvania region.

Donations to this fund are used to supplement the variety of perks and benefits we offer our employees as a way of thanking them for a continuous job well done. These perks include the Christmas party, Concordia picnic, Pittsburgh Pirates game, and staff appreciation week. Donors have found it to be a wonderful way to thank the staff for the special care they received.

Concordia Visiting Nurses Charitable Care Fund

"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'” - Matthew 25:40

There are few experiences more personal than receiving care in your own home, and at Concordia Visiting Nurses, every effort is made to make the caregiving experience as personal and comfortable as possible.

While CVN professional duty homecare is Medicare-certified, state-licensed, and Medicaid-approved, there are still shortfalls on occasion. The Concordia Visiting Nurses Charitable Care Fund was established to bridge the gap between these shortfalls and provide care to those with limited funds.

Angel Tear Ministries

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.” - Acts 20:35b

Established in 2007, Angel Tear Ministries is a fund dedicated to supporting the underprivileged around the globe. God has blessed Concordia Lutheran Ministries, and in good faith and Christian love we are giving back to God in faithful stewardship. There are few opportunities to make a greater impact on those less fortunate than Angel Tear Ministries.

Locally, Concordia has partnered with PALM (Pittsburgh Area Lutheran Ministries) to provide grants for mission projects in western PA, such as The Sonshine Kitchen, Unity Community After School Program, Deaf Ministry, and Pittsburgh Area Lutheran Schools.

Internationally, Concordia has partnered with LCMS World Relief and Human Care to serve God’s people all over the world, including the construction of three orphanages for children left alone because of the AIDS epidemic, the purchase of three medical mobile clinics in parts of southern Sudan, and the education of future church workers in Kenya.

"A Time to Build..." Capital Campaign

“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” - II Corinthians 9:7

Since our humble beginning as a home for orphans in 1882, Concordia has grown into a thriving continuing care retirement community.  In the coming years we expect to regularly treat far more patients over the course of a year. The desire for independence, privacy, and the ability to age in place without the responsibilities of home ownership brings up an interesting challenge for the future.

To meet the changing needs of our community, Concordia is constantly evaluating opportunities for growth and development. The “A Time to Build…” Capital Campaign is the fund that supports these building and expansion projects in order to serve more of God’s people.
