Concordia Lutheran Ministries Acquires Therapy Pool
Cabot, PA – Along with the Lund Care Center Expansion opening in two weeks, Concordia Lutheran Ministries will also be introducing a state-of-the-art aquatic therapy pool.
Concordia recently purchased a HydroWorx 1500 aquatic therapy pool for use by both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services offered at Lund. Best known for its use by professional sports teams such as the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals, the rehab pool will bring a service that is scarce in Western Pennsylvania to the local and surrounding communities, as Concordia will have one of only a few pools of this kind in the area.
The trademark of this pool is its adjustable floor and variable water depth, enabling users to easily enter and exit the pool, rather than going down a ramp or steps. Patients are able to simply walk or be wheeled onto the floor of the pool, which then descends to depths of 6’6” in under 30 seconds.
In addition to the adjustable floor, the pool also offers several amenities, such as a large, 14’x18’ water treatment area that can accommodate eight people at one time, two front resistance jets with massage hoses, and an advanced commercial water filtration system.
The 14,200-gallon pool has a variable water temperature that can get as warm as 94 degrees Fahrenheit. There are also stainless steel support bars in the pool to assist with patient comfort and stability.
Aquatic therapy is a trend in rehabilitation that is catching on with the aging community in particular due to its effectiveness on patients with arthritis, Fibromyalgia, and chronic pain. Beyond these ailments, aquatic therapy is helpful for rehabilitation following surgery and for sports and work related injuries as well, because of the low impact nature of the therapy.
The benefits of aquatic therapy are copious also. It protects joints during exercise, decreases swelling, increases circulation, and increases range of motion, among other things.
