Good Samaritan Hospice to Host Children's Camp
Cabot, PA – In an effort to help western Pennsylvania children who have lost a loved one understand the grieving process, Good Samaritan Hospice (GSH), a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, will host an overnight summer bereavement camp (Camp Good SAM) from Aug. 13 – 15 at YMCA Camp Kon-O-Kwee near Zelienople, just north of Cranberry.
This fun-filled camp is specially designed for children ages 6 – 18 years old, with goals aimed to build trust, enhance self-esteem, and strengthen coping skills. The campers are paired with specially trained volunteers throughout the camp. A memorial service is held at the end of the weekend for campers and their families.
Interested campers must complete a camp application, which can be downloaded from Concordia’s Web site, and participate in a brief interview before attending. Thanks to community support, grants, and organizational sponsorships, the minimal cost for Camp Good SAM is only $15 per family.
The curriculum for the camp includes group sessions, one-on-one interaction, crafts, recreational, and sports activities. Campers are encouraged to work through grief at their own pace, while GSH counselors foster an environment of sharing and acceptance.
Registration is currently open. To register or receive additional information, contact Good Samaritan Hospice toll free at 1.800.720.2557.
