Concordia Independent Living Resident Turns 95

Cabot, PA – Concordia Lutheran Ministries Haven I resident Marie Malenky celebrated her 95th birthday recently with a family reunion at her son’s house in Louisville, Ohio.

The former Marie Pfeiffer was born in Pittsburgh on July 18, 1914. She married her first husband Kurt Nestel on Sept. 26, 1935 at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Pittsburgh and later married John Plentovich in the Oertel Care Center chapel in 1976. With both of her prior husbands passing away, she married Paul Malenky.

She has four children: Ruth Dietz of Springfield, OH; Kurt Nestel of Louisville, OH; Marie Kubala of Cheswick; and Elise Miller of Warner Robins, GA. She also has 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, as well as four step-grandchildren and 11 step-great grandchildren.

Malenky worked as a clerk for Hites Pharmacy in Glenshaw until her retirement in 1976. She has lived at Concordia for over 21 years, since coming from her home in West Deer Twp. A member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glenshaw, Malenky enjoys music, visiting family, and making placemats from recycled greeting cards.
