Concordia Independent Living Resident Turns 95

Cabot, PA – Concordia Lutheran Ministries Haven III resident Joseph A. Michalek celebrated his 95th birthday recently with a private lunch with his wife in the Lund Care Center.

Michalek was born in Natrona Heights on Dec. 10, 1913. He married his wife Frances Wloczewski on Feb. 3, 1943 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help – Blessed Sacrament in Natrona Heights. They have three children: Roseanne Desilets of Anaheim, CA; James Michalek of Alamo Gordo, NM; and Kathleen Obarski of Oak Ridge, TN. He also has four grandchildren.

Michalek worked for Allegheny Ludlum in Brackenridge for 42 years until his retirement in September of 1979. He was also involved with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 186 in Natrona Heights for 30 years and was a member of the ELKS Club in Tarentum and M.O.R.A. (Men of Retirement Age).

An Army veteran who served during World War II from 1943-1946, Michalek worked with an anti-aircraft unit and on bridge engineering in the U.S. and Philippines.

Michalek is a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help – Blessed Sacrament in Natrona Heights. He enjoys golf, bridge, and music.
