Concordia Lutheran Ministries New Board Members Profiles
Cabot, PA – Concordia Lutheran Ministries held its Annual Meeting on Nov. 9 at the Concordia Social Hall, in the newly reopened retirement living building Haven I in Cabot. At the meeting, six new board members were appointed to Concordia’s Board of Directors.
David Alsing
Irwin resident and Calvary Lutheran Church member David Alsing retired in 2003 as Quality Manager for Westinghouse Electric Nuclear Automation, where he worked for 39 years. He graduated from Valparaiso University with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and earned his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.
A former Concordia board member for 12 years, Alsing held membership on various committees and Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. He currently serves as a member of the Concordia at Rebecca Residence Board.
Alsing has been active in his congregation, having served as congregational chairman, chairman of the board of elders, and chairman of the board of education. He was also the church’s Sunday School superintendent and teacher. He sings with the Calvary Praise Choir, serves on the stewardship committee as financial secretary and leads Calvary’s Stephen Ministry. He has been married to his wife Marty for 38 years and has three children and two grandchildren.
Virginia Humphrey
Penn Hills resident and Redeemer Lutheran Church member Virginia Humphrey served on the Concordia Board of Directors for 18 years previously. She formerly worked as the secretary, chaired the personnel committee, and served on the nominating and strategic planning committees.
She has been extremely active in the Lutheran church as well, serving as Redeemer’s church secretary, treasurer and member of the budget and finance committee, church choir and past president of the Ladies Aid Guild.
Humphrey is President of the Pittsburgh Zone Lutheran Women’s Missionary League – English District. She and her husband Bill have been married for 43 years, have two children and four grandchildren.
Stephen W. Johnson
Oakland resident and First Trinity Lutheran Church member Stephen W. Johnson is currently employed as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of CNX Gas Corporation, where he has worked since 2005. Prior to joining CNX Gas, he was a partner in the Business and Regulatory Group at Reed Smith LLP, one of the 20 largest law firms in the world.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Virginia and a juris doctoral degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Johnson has served as corporate, securities and mergers and acquisitions counsel to both public and privately held companies for his entire professional career.
Johnson, who previously served on the CLM Board of Directors for six years, is past Chairman of NEED, a non-profit organization that provides college scholarships to minority students.
He and his wife Tracey have two children, Sam and Adam.
Michael K. Rodgers
Bethel Ev. Lutheran Church member Michael K. Rodgers is the principal of The Rodgers Group, a niche provider of advanced estate and wealth transfer planning for affluent retirees. Prior to founding the firm in 2002 he progressed through a variety of sales, marketing and service center operations roles at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation before becoming a vice president.
Rodgers received his MBA from the University of Dayton, as well as a bachelor of science in business administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He also attended Northwestern University-Kellogg School of Management for executive coursework.
At his congregation, Rodgers has participated in a variety of roles, including the board of elders, board of directors, usher and teen Sunday School teacher.
Christie Scott
New Brighton resident and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church member Christie Scott has worked for the past 19 years as a Care Manager and Ombudsman for the Beaver County Office on Aging (BCOA). Through BCOA she is able to provide her clients with the basic services that allow them to remain independent in their own homes.
A graduate of Houghton College in N.Y. (B.A.) and State University of N.Y. at Albany (M.A.), she also works with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare to see that the facilities housing and serving older Pennsylvanians comply with the relevant Federal and State regulations.
She is currently an active choir member and Stephen Ministry leader at her congregation and has represented Concordia’s missions program during four trips to Africa over the past three years. She and her husband Milt have been very interested in the work of Concordia for the past 12 years since her mother lived the last year of her life with the organization.
Scott has four adult children and four grandchildren.
James S. Wolf
Pittsburgh resident and Peace Lutheran Church member James S. Wolf is a retired global banker who specialized in creating financial and operating solutions for major corporations, financial institutions, and not-for-profit organizations. He is currently a director of the CLM Foundation and ex-officio member of the CLM Board’s Finance Committee.
In his congregations, Jim has acted in many service and leadership positions, including president, vice president, head elder, head deacon, lay preacher, head usher, and choir member. He is active in local service and economic development organizations, and is a board member at The World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh, The Western Pennsylvania Canada Forum, The British American Business Council and The National Council for International Visitors. He also chairs The Pittsburgh Council for International Visitors board.
Wolf has recruited and led three teams of Pittsburgh-area Lutherans to build houses with the Lutheran Church in Southern Africa and one team to build a home on a Lakota Sioux reservation in South Dakota. Following those trips, Jim has spoken at area churches and at the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Pittsburgh zone meeting to build interest in and support for these mission projects.
He has been married to his wife Mary, a teacher in the Mt. Lebanon School District, for 35 years. They have two children – Elizabeth, 25, and Michael, 21.
