Concordia Oktoberfest Turns 30 Years Old
Cabot, PA – For 30 years, Concordia Lutheran Ministries has hosted an annual Oktoberfest – and believe it or not we still haven’t outgrown our lederhosen.
On Oct. 6, over 800 residents, staff, and community members made the trip to the Lund Care Center to enjoy the food, entertainment, and activities. One highlight of this year’s festivities was guided tours of Concordia’s latest acquisition Saxony Farm Estate.
For the second year in a row the evening ended with a spectacular fireworks display by our friends at Zambelli International. Regarding the weather, no one could ask for a better afternoon – literally. There has never been a warmer Oct. 6 in this area in history.
The food was excellent, as festival-goers were treated to herb-crusted chicken, kielbasa and sauerkraut, and a roast pig, among many other German-themed menu items. Special thanks to Concordia’s dietary dept. for catering and staff member Carol Schuler for donating and roasting the pig, which helped raise money for Concordia’s capital campaign (set to end in November).
The Kid’s Tent was active all day, as dozens of children painted pumpkins, played games, and visited with the animals in the petting zoo. The North Star Kids, accordionist Al Marsico, and The Lou Pisani Orchestra provided entertainment throughout the day.
An enormous thanks to everyone who came out and to all the volunteers who helped make this event a success for the thirtieth straight year.
