Concordia Residents Celebrate 60th Wedding Anniversary

Cabot, PA – Concordia Lutheran Ministries residents Marvin G. and Florence Porter celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 14 with a family gathering in the Lund Care Center.

Marvin married Florence Bergstrom on June 14, 1947 in the Natrona Heights Church of the Brethren. The couple has three children: Marilyn Simmons of Saxonburg, PA; Joyce Nyardy of Salem, OH; and Pamela Ortz of Cabot, PA. The Porters also have five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Marvin retired in 1987 after serving 40 years in the banking industry. He graduated from a three year banking program from the University of Wisconsin. He is a past President of the Allegheny Valley Chamber of Commerce, a member and Quartermaster of the VFW Post 894 in Natrona Heights, and a member and past President of the Tarentum Area Lions Club. Florence graduated from the Pittsburgh Beauty Academy and went on to become a housewife.

Marvin served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He spent time in the South Atlantic and South Pacific operations.

The Porters are still members of the Natrona Heights Church of the Brethren. Marvin enjoys promoting VFW work and Naval history. Florence enjoys hair styling and designing floral arrangements.
