Social Worker Retires After Ten Years at Concordia

Cabot, PA – There are many reasons why people choose to retire when they do – whether it’s a health situation, job frustration, travel plans, or a number of other things.

Concordia Social Service Worker Marilyn Lias’ reason for swiping her nametag one last time is arguably better than all of them – she is expecting her second granddaughter in March.

Lias was only the third social service worker ever hired at Concordia Lutheran Ministries. She has been with the organization for nearly 10 years, a commendable accomplishment in a time where many individuals stay at one job for less than three years.

Lias, a certified personal care home administrator, received her Batchelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Psychology from Slippery Rock University. She has also completed some graduate course work at Penn State University and the University of Pittsburgh. She worked in mental health for 18 years at Irene Stacey and Family Counseling Center in Kittanning. She also worked at Belaire Nursing Center and Citizens General Hospital.

She lives in Kittanning with her husband Clare, a retired schoolteacher. She has two children: Michael of Fort Meyers, FL and Marnie of Dallas, TX. She currently has one nine-month-old granddaughter named Cali.

Besides spending time with her grandchildren, Lias said she plans on visiting all 50 states during retirement, as she has been to 42 so far.
