Knoch Running Back Progressing Quickly in Concordia Outpatient Therapy

Cabot, PA – Taking back the opening kickoff against Ringgold High School on Sept. 7, the last thing Knoch running back Alex Whisler was thinking about was getting injured.

After taking a brutal hit from two Ringgold defenders, injury was the only thing on his mind.

Whisler, an 18 year-old senior, tore his ACL, MCL, and Meniscus all on that one play. For the next three and a half weeks, he would spend countless hours per week at Concordia Outpatient Therapy, regaining range of motion mostly in Concordia’s aquatic therapy pool. His surgery was Oct. 5 with Dr. Jim Bradley.

“The pool really worked wonders for me,” Whisler said. “I could barely put any weight on the knee – I can’t imagine how people rehab from an injury like this without it.”

Since returning from surgery, Whisler is in the midst of a 15-week individualized therapy program with Director of Concordia Outpatient Therapy Nick Reiser, who is Whisler’s evaluating therapist. Reiser said Whisler’s regimen includes work on the treadmill, recumbent bicycle, and plyometrics, among other exercises.

Whisler recently went back to Dr. Bradley for a post-operation evaluation, during which Dr. Bradley said he was shocked at Whisler’s quick progress.

“Looking back, I couldn’t have chosen a better place,” Whisler said. “Between the personalized treatment, the equipment, and the knowledgeable therapists, my recovery is going smoother than I ever thought.”

As he prepares for college at Edinboro University next fall, Whisler said he has all intentions of playing football at the collegiate level as a walk-on. He plans on majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Business.
