Concordia Haven Resident Celebrates 90th Birthday

Cabot, PA – Concordia Lutheran Ministries Haven II resident Melvin J. Yarsky, formerly of St. Petersburg, FL, is celebrating his 90th birthday with a party on June 2 at 4 p.m. in the Haven II dining room.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 31, 1917, Yarsky married Gerda Nerlch on Sept. 10, 1942 in Tucson, AZ. The couple has five living children, Jo Ann Pick of Estero, FL; Susan Byrne of Pittsburgh; Cindy Lee Morgan of Lafayette, LA; Janet Lynn Rassau of Greenville, NC; and Kimberly Jean Zandier of Pittsburgh. They have two deceased children, 18 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

Before his retirement in 1980, Yarsky worked for the LTV Steel Company for 15 years. He was also a partner in Lindenwood Beer Distributing Company for 20 years. Yarsky served in the United States Air Force as a Bomber Pilot during World War II. He and his wife are members at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cabot.

Yarsky has lived at Concordia for 11 years. His interests include visiting family and friends and the computer.
