5 Spring Activities for Seniors (2014)

March 18, 2014

After the difficult winter weather we've had at the Concordia senior care locations in western PA and eastern OH this year, we couldn't be happier that spring is finally showing its beautiful face! The official start is March 20, and before we know it, the buds will be on the trees, the flowers will be sprouting bulbs and baseball season will be in full swing.

With the warmer weather making its way in, there are many activities for seniors and their loved ones to enjoy together. We thought we'd list five here; if you have any you'd like to add to the list, leave it in the comments section below!

1. Have a picnic in the park - This activity is great on many levels: fresh air, light exercise, good food, time with family/friends and more. Just don't forget the hand sanitizer, keep your cold picnic foods cold and scout the area first to make sure the terrain isn't too hard to navigate and has a restroom nearby. If your senior loved one has any dietary restrictions, take those into account when making the menu.

2. Visit a farm or farmer's market - Many farms offer tours of their operation, which can be fascinating for those who have never seen one up close and nostalgic for a senior loved one who maybe worked at a farm in their younger days. Before you schedule, be sure to ask if the area is difficult to maneuver for someone with limited mobility.
