We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. Today, charities, families, businesses, community centers and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

Concordia Lutheran Ministries is excited, once again, to incorporate this revolutionary giving movement into our Season of Hope giving campaign. As a special campaign feature - we asked members of the Concordia family why they feel it is so important to give back to Concordia. Here are a few of the responses we received.

From the Concordia family to yours: Happy Thanksgiving! Today's post comes from Concordia Chaplain Rev. Robert Wacker. Concordia has an excellent Chaplaincy Department that actively contributes to our patients' and residents' spritual well being. Enjoy!

In our hymnal we have a hymn titled “Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart.” With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I couldn’t help but think of this hymn. Thanksgiving is a time when we think about what we are thankful and grateful for in our lives. The hymn goes like this:

There have been countless books written about World War II, and one of Concordia’s own has actually contributed to that literature. Concordia at Cabot Skilled Nursing resident and veteran S. What Faith Based Caring Really Means

Faithful caring, healing and service: These characteristics exemplify “The Concordia Way.” Senior living in Pittsburgh, PA at Concordia means residents are treated with caring compassion as we fulfill our ministry of service with our core value of healing at the forefront, providing non-profit senior care to seniors of all denominations.

Whether receiving care in one of Concordia's residential service options, being treated in one of our rehabilitation programs, or taking advantage of the extra time provided by our adult day services, every act is performed with an open, loving heart. The staff members work with the purpose of exemplifying God's love by working through service to fulfill the ministry of Concordia. Faith-based caring is exactly what it sounds like: following our faith and God's word to lead us to service of others. Selflessly giving to improve another person’s quality of life is how we view service.

At Concordia Lutheran Ministries (a place where, as our President & CEO reminds us, we still say "Merry Christmas") we call this special time of year our Season of HOPE.

In the United States alone, experts estimate that more than 5 million Americans are battling Alzheimer’s disease, and it has quietly become the third leading cause of death behind heart disease and cancer.
