Concordia Lutheran Ministries Elects Six New
Board Members

Cabot, PA – Keith E. Frndak, President and CEO, Concordia Lutheran Ministries announced the election of six new board members. Eighteen board members comprise the governing body and represent 37 Lutheran Churches Missouri Synod in the western Pennsylvania area.

Installed by Rev. Jack Hartman, chaplain, Concordia Lutheran Ministries, the newly elected members follow.

William S. Hallock of Bradfordwoods was raised in Hinsdale, IL. He is a member of Ascension Lutheran Church since 1993. Currently a teacher of deaf adults with Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh, Bill is active in the deaf community and spends most Sundays worshipping or leading services at Trinity Lutheran Church of the Deaf in Swissvale. He also teaches at Concordia Theological Seminary-Fort Wayne, IN for two weeks each summer at the Church Interpreter Training Institute. Bill is gifted in languages and holds a B.A. in German with a minor in Russian; he also speaks Spanish and is fluent in American Sign Language. Prior to his current career in education, Bill served in the U.S. Navy, managed the flight departments for Rockwell International-Sabreliner Division and Mellon Bank, owned a graphics design business, was a pilot for USAirways and managed the IT Department at Communifax Corporation, a local marketing company. When not studying ASL, Bill enjoys boating, bicycling and home improvement. He is married to Kate Hallock, editor of the Pittsburgh Lutheran.

Rev. Jamison Hardy, pastor since December, 2000 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Mt. Lebanon, graduated with a B.A. in Education from Concordia University in Mequon, WI before he entered Concordia Theological Seminar in Fort Wayne, IN. A member of the English District, Western Region Mission Action Council since 2001, he also serves as Pastoral Representative of the Circuit of the Synodical Convention in 2004 and Treasurer of the Pittsburgh Pastoral Conference in 2003. He has been chairman of the Pittsburgh Reformation Rally for Pittsburgh Area Lutheran Churches since 2001. As a member of the Concordia Board the past three years, he served as Chair of the Personnel & Chaplaincy Committee as well as on the Executive and Facilities Management Committees. He is also a member of the Lutheran Health & Human Care and Concordia at Rebecca Residence subsidiary Boards. He is a member of the Board of Directors for District 14B Lions Club International and President of the Mt. Lebanon Lions. Pastor Hardy is married to Wendy and has two sons, Noah and Nathan.

Rev. Barry Keurulainen is Senior Pastor of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cabot where he has served since 1982. Rev. Barry has enjoyed various leadership roles in the Eastern District, the Synod’s Board of Evangelism Services and the Lutheran Family Association and Adult Gatherings for the District. He also served the Synod’s Board of Evangelism Services as a member of its task force for Witnessing to the Unchurched Family Member and on the Board of Directors of the Lutheran Family Association of LCMS, as ell as the International Pastoral Advisor for the International Lutheran Laymen’s League. Concordia Publishing House published his work, “Walking in the Shadows,” a study in the area of death and grief, Lifelight Bible Studies which he co-authored on the topic of “Conflict Management” and “Romance and Sexuality,” along with devotions he wrote for the publications of “Portals of Prayer” and various newsletter articles for national publication. Most recently he authored “50 Days Ablaze!” – a mission oriented devotional study. Pastor Barry served on the Concordia Board from 1998 – 2003. He is married to Andie, a teacher at St. Luke.

James Limbaugh is an attorney with the law firm of Miller Limbaugh & Conley in Allison Park, Jim is a graduate of Parsons College in Fairfield, IA with a B.A. in history; and Ohio Northern Law School in Ada, OH with a J.D. He has served five three-year terms on the Board of Director for Concordia, holding offices as president and vice president. Currently, he is a member of the Governance, Nominating, and Strategic planning committees of the Board. This will be his second consecutive term. He is married to Karen and has four children. They are residents of Cabot and belong to St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cabot.

Terry D. Miller has been a Nuclear Cardiology Technologist for 32 years. Terry currently works at UPMC St. Margaret having spent the greatest part of his career at St. Francis Medical Center. Terry has been a member of Zion since his marriage 30+ years ago. He was Treasurer for the congregation for the last 26 years until he took the post as President this past year. In addition he has served as elder, Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent for more than 20 years as well as chef for all special events at Zion.  Terry was a member of the Pittsburgh Area Lutheran Ministries (PALM) board for two years where he was elected treasurer the last year. He has been a frequent Delegate for the LCMS District convention and a Thrivent contact person for Zion.  Also to his credit is his work with Campraise for 18 years. He is married to Ruth who retired as a music teacher from the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education after 31 years.  Ruth is church organist at Zion and director of the Pittsburgh Lutheran Chorus. They have one daughter, Naomi and one granddaughter, Felicity and live in Shaler Township. He is a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lawrenceville.

John Toperzer has been a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Brentwood since 1960, John served as President, Vice President and Sunday School Teacher. Currently an Elder, Usher, Worship Assistant and Vice President in his congregation, he also represents his church as a PALM and Concordia Lutheran Ministries delegate. John was President and Director of PALM (Pittsburgh Area Lutheran Ministries) from 2000 to 2003. Retired from Bayer Corporation as Principal Mechanical Engineer in 1996, he earned his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon (Carnegie Tech). John particularly enjoys his work as a volunteer for the Money Management Program co-sponsored by AARP and the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging and administered by Ursuline Services, Inc. He is widowed and has two children who also are active at Concordia Lutheran Church.

Each will serve a three-year term. “The breadth of experience and expertise these board members bring to our organization is the foundation for Concordia’s blessings,” notes Frndak.
