4 Tips for Relieving Caregiver Stress | Video

There are around 44 million Americans who could be classified as “non-professional caregivers” – individuals who provide unpaid care to a friend or relative in their home. Anyone can be one of these caregivers: a wife taking care of her husband, a nephew caring for his aunt, an adult child caring for mom or dad, even a parent caring for a disabled or ill child.

Knowing that you’re helping a loved one should be a rewarding experience. While fulfilling, though, sometimes, being one of these non-professional caregivers can be pretty demanding and stressful. In this video, Melissa Weichey, manager of Concordia at Cabot’s Adult Day Services program, talks about a few things you can do to help relieve your caregiver stress. Melissa has worked with seniors and their families for nearly a decade.

It’s important that you familiarize yourself with the emotional, physical and behavioral warning signs. The video’s content touches on asking your loved ones for help, getting plenty of rest, taking care of yourself and getting professional help, if needed.

If you have any questions about the tips we just described, questions about senior care in general, or questions on how Concordia can help care for your loved one, please don’t hesitate to contact a Concordia admissions representative at any of our facilities or home care offices.
