Beautiful Day for the 2014 Good Samaritan Hospice 5K

September 23, 2014

Another Good Samaritan Hospice (GSH) 5K is in the books, and judging by the perfect weather, the smiling faces and the funds raised for patient programs, it was another great event! (Photos below)

Over 200 people participated in the memorial walk/run, which was held at the North Park Swimming Pool on Saturday morning. We don’t have all the expenses calculated yet, but our gross amount raised was $15,600!

Our top three finishers all came from Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic Cross Country Team (go figure, ha!):

1) Rylee Kopchak, 14 – 17:25.0; 2) Chris Virostek, 14 – 17:37.0; 3) Joey Schmitzer, 14 – 17:37.0

We also had special awards for the top-finishing Concordia/GSH staff members: Kermit Bateson – 21:15.0 and Jessica Lauer – 25:01.0, both of Concordia at Cabot! Click here for a complete list of runners’ finishing times (only runners were timed – not walkers, which was the majority of our participants).

Fun fact: The artwork on the front of this year’s event shirt was from an art contest held during Camp Erin Pittsburgh. Camp Erin is an overnight bereavement camp held by GSH and the Moyer Foundation to provide grief support for children who have lost a loved one. Camp is free of charge thanks to the generosity of individuals, businesses, corporations and foundations.

A big thanks goes out to our volunteers, who make this event a little more special and welcoming than the average 5K. Special thanks to our sponsors as well; without them this event wouldn’t be possible!
