Fashions by “Cynthia’s Boutique” – with locations in both Fairlawn and Akron – were modeled by Concordia staff, residents, members of the Louise Sumner Board and the Boutique employees. When the fashion show started, each lady took a turn strolling down the runway; some walked casual and free while others gave a show! Several family and community members were there to support the ladies in their trendsetting outfits. Along with the fashions, a basket auction, silent auction and a variety of vendors made for a great event for all attendees.
A big thank you to the committee for the countless hours spent on plans and preparations as well as the many residents, staff, community and family members who supported this event in one way or another. Final figures are not in yet, but our preliminary numbers show that through the hard work and dedication this event contributed to more than $14,000 in donations towards Concordia at Sumner’s Garden of Prayer.
The new Garden of Prayer, soon to be installed around Concordia’s Louise Sumner Pavilion, will be a multi-sensory experience for all who choose to explore it. Different varieties of trees and flowers will add gorgeous pops of color and sweet fragrances while birdsongs and two unique water features will create a soothing backdrop of sound. Thoughtful seating configurations and shaded areas throughout the garden will be perfect for patients, residents, families and staff to use in groups for conversation, prayer, meditation and visiting. The Garden of Prayer can also be used by individuals to practice coping skills such as prayer, walking, journaling and breathing exercises.
