At Concordia Lutheran Ministries, our employees are at the heart and hands of our mission – they care for our residents and patients with their hard work, kindness and empathy and keep our organization running with their leadership, vision and dedication.

Watching our amazing staff handle the unprecedented challenges of 2020 that continue into this year has been truly inspiring, so we chose to highlight just a few in our 2021 Concordia Calendar as a proclamation of gratitude for their many contributions. Though we wish there could be 3,000 pages in the calendar to feature all of our employees, this small sampling is representative of our extraordinary staff as a whole. Each month, we’ll introduce you to the talented, compassionate team members featured in our calendar.

August’s employees are Nikki Lauff and Michelle Moan from our Concordia of Wexford team!

Q: What is your current position at Concordia and when did you begin your career with the organization?

Nikki: I am a Med Tech/Aide and I started in October of 2019.

Michelle: I am the Activity Director and I have been here since November of 2010.

Q: Why do you choose to work for Concordia?

Nikki: Concordia helps with tuition costs to help you further your career. I also enjoy the good pay and benefits, along with employee referral bonuses.

Michelle: I love that Concordia understands the importance of activities for our residents. I also love that Concordia appreciates their employees. Additionally, I have some great co-workers!

Q: What aspects do you love most about your career?

Nikki: The relationships you form with the residents and co-workers.

Michelle: I enjoy the flexibility and being able to do fun things! The days are never the same and we’re always thinking of new activities to do.

Q: How do you best serve your residents?

Nikki: By fulfilling their individual needs.

Michelle: Whatever is needed – whether that is social, emotional or spiritual support. I try and just be there for any needs.

Q: How do you decompress after a long day at work?

Nikki: Bonfires, cookouts and swimming!

Michelle: I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love to go to the lake with my friends, watching my daughter play softball, and attending my church.

Q: Can you tell us about a time you and/or your co-workers went above and beyond during the pandemic?

Nikki: We picked up shifts and worked doubles to help out. We were also there for the residents when their families couldn’t be.

Michelle: It was a tough time for everyone. When the residents were unable to come out of their room, the staff stepped up and made sure they had hot meals and coffee and were comfortable. We didn’t just drop meals, we tried for the few minutes we had with them to make it fun and personal. We made it through as a team.
