Concordia to Host 2015 Fishing Derby for Kids

April 7, 2015

For most of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Trout Season will officially start on Saturday, April 18. Why does this matter at Concordia? Well, besides the fact that a lot of our residents and staff members enjoy fishing, it means we’re getting close to our Fishing Derby for Kids!

Fishing Derby 14 026This year’s event (for children 14 and under) will be held at Saxony Farm Lake in Saxonburg on Saturday, May 30 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. And just like last year, EVERYTHING IS FREE! Concordia will provide bait, a few fishing rods to borrow (bring your own if you have one), hot dogs and refreshments, prizes and parking! All children need to be accompanied by an adult. Click here for Google Maps directions.

Last year’s event was a HUGE success. We were praying for a turnout of 200 people… and we ended up with close to 400 guests! Hundreds of blue gills, bass and catfish were caught (and released), some over 12 inches! The cool thing is, since Lake Saxony is fully stocked AND private, everyone has a good chance of getting more than a few bites.

There will be volunteers on hand to help measure fish, detangle fishing lines, teach you the basics and anything else that may come up. We’ll also have a tent set up with some tables and chairs for those in need of some shade. Make sure you bring a lawn chair, if you like.

**If fishing isn’t your thing, click here to learn more about our Fashion Show on May 2 at the Butler Country Club. A few tickets are still available!**

We would LOVE it if you could take a minute to register below for the Fishing Derby to help us plan, but it’s not 100% required. For more information by phone, call Concordia Public Relations at 724-352-1571, ext. 8268.

(Registration for this event is closed!)
