Concordia's Summer Event Calendar is Full (as usual)

It's already been a busy (and HOT) summer season at Concordia, with the Golf Outing, Legacy Society Luncheon, Good Samaritan Hospice children's bereavement camps and hundreds of resident-centered activities and events. What can we say? We would rather be busy than bored. :)

And we're not letting this heat slow us down now. Below is information on some of our remaining events for the rest of the summer which doesn't end until September 22 (as far away as that seems). Concordia Haven Apartments to Host Two Open House Events in July

Cabot Concordia Haven Apartments will host two open house events at Haven I (112 Marwood Rd., entrance 2A) in July July 22 and July 29, the latter being held in tandem with the annual Concordia Summer Festival.

The open house events will be from 1 3 p.m. Both events are free and open to the community. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to tour the buildings and learn about retirement communities. Refreshments will be served.

Concordia to Host 131st Annual Summer Festival

Cabot Concordia Lutheran Ministries will host its 131st Summer Festival on Sunday, July 29 from noon 6 p.m. in the Lund Care Center back yard on the Cabot campus (134 Marwood Rd.).

The event is free and open to the public. Entertainment this year is based on a Doo-Wop theme, including a classic car cruise, DJ Charlie Apple, "Elvis" and Concordia's In-house Band. Kids can enter a fishing derby on site and participate in a number of other activities, games and crafts at the gazebo. Golf carts and trolleys will be available to shuttle guests around the campus and there will be bus tours of Saxony Farm Estate from 1 3 p.m.

Our chef has created a menu featuring Buddy Holly Burgers, Mickey Mouse Club Wraps, Chubby Checkers BBQ Beef Brisket and T-Bird Slow-Roasted Chicken, all priced at $6, which includes two sides, dessert and a beverage. The Quick Tent menu items hot dog, fries, chicken tenders, soft pretzel and ice cream floats are $1 each. Kids 12 and under are entitled to three free items at the Quick Tent.

The traditional 3 p.m. worship service will be led by Dr. Dean O. Wenthe, former president of Concordia Theological Seminary who served as leader for the past 15 years until his retirement last June. He is a longtime professor and expert of Old Testament Theology at the seminary.

Concordia Hosts 12th Annual Dog Show August 14

Cabot Concordia at Cabot will host its 12th Annual Dog Show on Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lund Care Center back yard.

The Dog Show, which is free and open to the public, will feature a number of Concordia employee, resident and family-owned canines competing in Best Performer, Best Groomed, Most Obedient and Most Friendly categories. Several residents serve as judges for the event, which last year hosted around 200 residents and community members.

Concordia of Fox Chapel to Host Yard/Bake Sale for Alzheimer's Association

Fox Chapel Concordia of Fox Chapel will host a yard/bake sale at the facility (931 Route 910, Cheswick, 15024) on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association.

There will also be a gift basket drawing at the event. Concordia of Fox Chapel, which joined the Concordia Lutheran Ministries family in 2011, is one of the few stand-alone facilities specifically designed and staffed to care for individuals with memory-impairing illnesses, including Alzheimer's disease.

Concordia of the South Hills Plans Fundraiser Luncheon

Mt. Lebanon ? The First Concordia of the South Hills "Book Your Lunch" Author Luncheon is scheduled on Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Bethel Park, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The featured speaker is Meredith Mileti, author of the novel Aftertaste.

Tickets are $35 per person and include a three-course hot lunch and six free tickets to be used for the basket auction. Guests have the opportunity to purchase the book and have it signed by the author, a Mt. Lebanon resident. Lunch will be served at noon and the presentation will begin at 1 p.m.

This event is open to residents, families and members of the public. Vendor tables and auction basket proceeds will benefit the Concordia of the South Hills Caring Fund.
