The Secret to Living a Long and Happy Life at 105: Faith and Family

We have all lived through what feels to be 100 years over the course of the past 12 months. The day-to-day challenges of navigating a global health crisis and adapting to entirely new ways of living has undoubtedly aged us in some way.

Imagine living through two pandemics, two World Wars along with several other wars and military conflicts, and still having so many happy memories to reminisce upon when celebrating 105 years of life! It’s all about perspective, according to one Concordia family member.

This Valentine’s Day, we have sweet story from a resident couple at Concordia of Monroeville, who found a way to share their love, and spend some quality time with each other despite living in different areas of the building due to current temporary COVID-19 restrictions.

Concordia 2020 Calendar Artist Profile: Ann Culleiton

In 2019, Concordia’s calendar featured amazing resident artists – some who studied art in college and made a career out of it, some who won awards for their paintings and even those who always enjoyed art but didn’t truly get to paint until coming to Concordia. The good news is that the first group only scratched the surface of the talent found at Concordia. For 2020, our calendar featured gorgeous paintings from 11 new artists.

Titled “Brush Strokes 2,” the calendar featured a different painting each month by a resident who lives at one of our locations. We introduced you to the artist for each month, and we are wrapping up this series with December 2020’s artist, Ann Culleiton of the Concordia Haven Apartments on the Cabot campus.

We have so much to thank God for at Concordia, especially this year: our residents and patients who put their faith in our caregivers and services, our amazing team members, our committed volunteers and donors, our supportive communities in the areas we serve and so much more. Our prayer at Concordia is that the love of God shines brightly through us all this Thanksgiving season.

With that in mind, we have a special story to share with you about a group of Highpointe at Rebecca residents who formed a Community Service Committee to generously give time, resources and much more to the community.

Together Again: Siblings Living Under the Same Roof After 65 Years Apart

Jean Ohl, of Butler, PA, had been trying to convince her sister, Nancy Mowery, and brother, Jim Burtner, to move to the Concordia at Cabot Haven retirement living community ever since she moved in to her apartment in 2010. Little did she know, she would eventually succeed in getting both of them to move in to her building a decade later – during a pandemic, no less.
