The health and well-being of our patients, residents and team members is our number one priority. Despite many of the counties in which we operate beginning to re-open, per the Departments of Health, Concordia is still operating under a no visitation policy, except for patients/residents in end-of-life situations. However, those wishing to see their loved ones can schedule time with them at one of our safe visitation areas. Please call your loved one's facility for more information. For information regarding Concordia’s coronavirus precautions and cases, please click here. We have also began publishing regular video devotions from our Chaplains. Crowd Shows Up for Summer Festival Despite the Weather (photos and video)

July 29, 2014

Torrential downpours! Tornado warnings! Widespread flash flooding! Swarms of locusts! … …

Well, despite the rumors of imminent disaster on Sunday, the worst we got was thunder and rain. And we still had 600-700 people come out to enjoy our Annual Summer Festival – 150 of whom were kids!

Speaking of, the children had a blast at the Kids Zone, which included a fishing derby, bounce house, rock wall and tons of other fun stuff. The Gringo Zydeco Band introduced the crowd to Zydeco music – a blend of Cajun music, blues and rhythm and blues – and Dixieband entertained with their instrumental take on southern Dixieland classics.

Rev. Dr. David Paul Stechholz gave the message at the 3 p.m. worship service, talking about his memories of the area and Concordia, having been Pastor at Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer and School in nearby Oakmont, PA. He is currently Bishop and President of the LCMS English District.

Oh, and the food. The food was outstanding! No one knew what “Maque Choux” was before Sunday, but afterwards, we all want more!

Six of Concordia’s Alumni (former orphans who lived here when Concordia at Cabot was an orphanage) and their families and friends reminisced over lunch in our Snack Shop, hosted by Haven II resident and former administrator’s wife, Eleanor Schwalm.

Special thanks to everyone who made it out to the event and the TONS of volunteers who made the day possible! Now make sure you check out the photos and highlights video. Feel free to leave a comment below.
