My Concordia Career: Tammy Young’s Story

The Concordia Team is comprised of many talented and compassionate employees who have graciously served our mission in a variety of ways – and we are excited for you to meet these fantastic individuals!

Let us introduce you to Tammy Young, Chief Financial Officer for Concordia Community Support Services (CCSS). Tammy began her Concordia Career in 2009 as the Accounting Manager for Concordia Visiting Nurses (CVN) and will be celebrating her 9th anniversary with us on December 14!

Tammy earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Slippery Rock University prior to beginning her career with CVN. While in the mentorship role of Accounting Manager she earned her M.B.A. from Robert Morris University. In June of 2015, after her predecessor Bill Giallombardo retired, Tammy was appointed Chief Financial Officer for all of Concordia’s Home and Community Based Service Lines.

Tammy cites many reasons for why she chooses to work for Concordia, but it was our Christian environment and faith-based values that brought her to our organization.

“It is rare to find a position in accounting that allows you to grow in service and mission,” Tammy said. “Concordia provided me an opportunity to let my faith grow with residents, patients, consumers, and employees.”

When asked how she would describe Concordia, Tammy replied with “a pillar.”

“The definition of pillar really resonated with me. I feel Concordia embodies its definition of reliably providing essential support.”

Tammy is one of our CCSS Missions Committee representatives. Our representatives seek, contact, arrange and promote various Servant Events held quarterly to help those in need throughout our local communities. To date, her involvement in our Missions Committee has been her favorite Concordia memory.

“The development and participation in the new (established 2018) CCSS Missions Committee has been my favorite memory. Most especially the house build that occurred in September of this year. Service to others – that is what our Committee is all about.”

The house build Tammy refers to was a collaborative effort between the CCSS Missions Committee and St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cabot, PA. Nearly 50 volunteers from CCSS helped form a total of 225 volunteers to construct walls to house 18-23-year-old girls who had been in foster care. Along with framing 185 walls in 3 hours, 31 fleece blankets were made for the Ronald McDonald House, 150 Bibles were marked with specific Bible verses for Light of Life Mission, 12 infant blankets were started for area hospitals, 625 greeting cards were made for the military and 573 dry soup mixes were packed to be delivered to area food banks.

When asked what her secret (or not so secret) talent is, she said “supreme negotiator” – which is no secret to the Concordia Family, as she is extremely gifted in her negotiation skills.  She cites God as her main motivator to succeed:

“There is always something new to learn and I am hungry to learn something new every day. The more we know, the more God can use us for His glory.”

Tammy spends her free time with her husband Jason, daughter Aleah and her extended family. She enjoys running, reading and laughing. And we would bet that during baseball season you could catch her and family at PNC Park – she just may be the biggest Pittsburgh Pirates fan in our organization!

Tammy’s devotion to her family, her faith and to Concordia exemplifies the respect, dignity and compassion of our Mission and we are so thankful for her dedicated service.
