Retirement Living Couple Sets Their Own Pace at Highpointe

Did you know Concordia has multiple senior care locations that offer retirement living? At any given time, we are serving around 1,000 seniors in western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and Tampa, Florida in that one service line alone! We hear a lot of great things from our retirement living residents and their families about our services, and we wanted to take the opportunity to share one of their stories with you.

Dan and Barb Treusch, two of Highpointe at Rebecca’s founding residents, were not originally looking to move into a retirement home for another five years. Dan’s older brother, Adam, convinced them otherwise. When the Treusches decided to accompany Adam and his wife to a Highpointe at Rebecca information session, they instantly fell in love with the idea of spending the rest of their lives at Highpointe.

“We went to the information session, found out what the plan was and crunched the numbers,” Dan said. “Everything worked out perfectly and we could not be any happier with the decision we made.”

Before moving to Highpointe, Dan and Barb lived in Stanton Heights, a couple miles from downtown Pittsburgh. Dan, a veteran, has been retired since 2010 and Barb recently retired from nursing at a Pittsburgh hospital. They have two sons – Danny Jr. and Carl – and a granddaughter named Olive.

The Treusches enjoy the convenience of Highpointe by having access to all of their necessities on one floor and not having to deal with any outside maintenance.

“You just get to relax,” Barb said. “It is a move at your own pace environment. The staff and residents of Concordia are incredible, making our time here wonderful.”

The couple is heavily involved in the wide range of activities offered at Highpointe. Barb joined the Silver Sneakers club and participates in classes that help participants work on balance, joint stiffness and general exercise. She also enjoys monthly bingo and working with arts and crafts. Dan, who is a member of the woodshop committee, takes time to build handy crafts/structures from recycled wood, including the raised garden bed that sits at Highpointe’s garden. Together, Dan and Barb also attend the weekly chapel service that is held every Wednesday.

Their advice to those thinking about joining the Concordia family is simple: “Come and check out all of the amazing amenities and services that we have to offer. Once you see it for yourself there is no doubt choosing Concordia is the right decision.”

The Treusches are extremely grateful for all of the blessings their new home offers, including the time spent with their new neighbors.

“Coming to Concordia is a change in lifestyle, but the way we live now is something every senior citizen should experience.”
