How to Plan Ahead for Long-Term Care

In today’s world, planning ahead can seem like an overwhelming task. With so many changes in our daily lives, the thought of what type of long-term care  we might need later in life probably doesn’t even cross our minds - let alone make it to the top of our priority list. However, as we age, the possibility of needing long-term care increases dramatically. According to the National Institute on Aging, more than two-thirds of people over 65 will require some type of long-term care during their lifetime.

Concordia Hospice of Washington’s Cardinal Project Brings Joy to Senior Communities

It’s no secret that the coronavirus pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to the healthcare sector. Healthcare providers are adapting the way they deliver services and many sub-sectors of the industry, including hospice and home health, are relying on creativity to reach patients who they typically would’ve connected with in a hospital or facility setting.

The pandemic has had a significant impact on all of us in some way; however, as months go by, it is becoming evident that our senior loved ones residing in long-term care facilities are suffering from the prolonged isolation. They have not been able to visit with their loved ones and families in the ways they were able to pre-pandemic and many are now facing emotional health challenges.

Together Again: Siblings Living Under the Same Roof After 65 Years Apart

Jean Ohl, of Butler, PA, had been trying to convince her sister, Nancy Mowery, and brother, Jim Burtner, to move to the Concordia at Cabot Haven retirement living community ever since she moved in to her apartment in 2010. Little did she know, she would eventually succeed in getting both of them to move in to her building a decade later – during a pandemic, no less.

Clergy Appreciation Month 2020: How Spiritual Care Looks Different During the Pandemic

The second Sunday of October is set aside to remind us to recognize the work of our pastors and deaconesses at Concordia as well as those who serve in the ministry of our member churches. The national day also falls in National Clergy Month, which is observed each October. Although the observance officially began in 1992, the concept could be found in St. Paul’s letters to Timothy and the people of Thessalonica.

A Guide to Adult Day Services: A Q&A With An Adult Day Services Program Director

Adult Day Services provide compassionate daily care to adults who need caregiver support and assistance. National Adult Day Services Week, the third week in September, is set aside as a time to recognize adult day service providers across the U.S. and the impact they have on the lives of individuals and their families.

In honor of the week, we spoke with Concordia at Cabot Adult Day Services Coordinator Stefanie Dietrich about what Concordia’s Adult Day Services offers participants as well as family caregivers, and how the program has evolved during the COVID-19 pandemic. Stefanie joined the Concordia family in 2002 as a personal care Nurse Aide at Concordia at Cabot and transitioned to her current role in January 2019.
