How does hospice care begin?

You may be familiar with hospice care, but do you know how to actually start the admission process? Hospice care typically starts with a phone call from the patient’s physician, a hospital or other health care staff member; but a family member or the patient him/herself can call us for an evaluation without a referral. Like most people, you may be unsure about when to initiate hospice services for your loved one. For more information or to schedule a free informational visit, please call the Good Samaritan Hospice administrative offices at 724-933-8888 or toll free at 1-800-720-2557. You can also message us here.

Who pays for hospice care?

Hospice services are covered 100% by Medicare, Medicare HMOs, and Medical Assistance and are frequently covered by private insurance plans (including UPMC and Highmark). Nursing care, durable medical equipment and some medications are also covered by Medicare. We’re happy to explore “Out of Network” benefits upon request.

As a nonprofit organization, Good Samaritan Hospice is committed to serving all in need and we would be happy to discuss all options regardless of the patient’s financial resources.  For more information about payment options, please call the Good Samaritan Hospice administrative offices at 724-933-8888 or toll free at 1-800-720-2557. You can also message us here.
