April is National Volunteer Month: Good Samaritan Hospice Looking for Helpers

Jefferson Twp., PA - In celebration of National Volunteer Month, Good Samaritan Hospice, a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, is looking for volunteers to help further its mission of providing comfort care to those in end of life situations. Volunteers choose the duties, location and schedule that works for them.

Good Samaritan Hospice provides compassionate, personalized comfort care for individuals in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler and Westmoreland counties. Patients living at home, at the new Heritage Valley Health System hospice unit, in nursing homes or in the home-like setting of the Hospice House in Wexford or In-Patient Unit in Cabot are cared for by family and loved ones, with the support of experienced hospice staff and volunteers.

A few volunteer activities include:
•    Visiting with patients
•    Light cooking, cleaning, landscaping and laundry
•    Playing music
•    Clerical support
•    Event support
•    Photography/videography
•    Assisting the nurses (if volunteer is/was a medical worker)
•    And much more

Another unique volunteer opportunity is to serve as a Big Buddy at Camp Erin® Pittsburgh, a grief support camp for kids who have lost a loved one. The camp is held June 14 - 16 at YMCA Camp Kon-O-Kwee Spencer, 30 miles north of Pittsburgh. Camp registration is free thanks to generous support from businesses, foundations and individuals. This camp is a collaboration between The Moyer Foundation - a nonprofit organization founded by World Series Champion Jamie Moyer and his wife Karen - and GSH.

No prior experience is needed, just an open heart and the desire to change a life. Interested volunteers can call Volunteer Coordinator Erin Middleton at 1.800.720.2557 to register, or complete the online volunteer application form at
