Concordia Independent Living Resident Turns 106

Mt. Lebanon, PA - The oldest resident at Concordia of the South Hills, Greta Gourse celebrated her 106th birthday on August 30th with her friends in personal care.  

The former Margaret Erdheim was born on September 1, 1907 in Vienna where she lived with her parents and an older sister. She married husband Ernest Erdheim in 1927. In March, 1938 she and her husband fled to Brussels until the Nazis occupied Belgium and spent the rest of the war years in France. Then in 1949, an American cousin sponsored their emigration to New York.  They settled in San Francisco and Greta found work as a corsetiere at I. Magnin Department Store where she worked for 20 years. Milton Gourse, After her first husband died unexpectedly, she married Milton Gourse. When he became ill, her only living relative, Lisa Palminera, a niece in Pittsburgh convinced her to move to Pittsburgh and in April 2004 she came to our Mt. Lebanon facility.  
 
Greta's rich sense of humor allows her to enjoy each day. And those whose lives she touches are better for knowing her.
