Born in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh, she lived in Cheswick before moving to Concordia in 2013. She married William Miller on June 16, 1938. They had six children – Elsie Overly, Patty Brunner, Kathy Baas, Marilyn Kovacs, Kristine Hrivnak and William. Her husband passed away in 1995. She has 11 grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Elsie worked for Horne’s and Gimbels department stores in downtown Pittsburgh. She loved to sew and made her clothes and clothes for her children. In addition she enjoyed reading, baking, music and dancing. In fact, Elsie still dances and does chair exercises. Her favorite pastimes – eating ice cream and talking about her trips to Hawaii with her husband.
Elsie’s advice after living 100 years is “always mind your own business.”
She plans to celebrate her milestone birthday with family and 50 of her closest friends at a hall in Springdale.
