Concordia Visiting Nurses Clinicians Earn Certification as OASIS Specialists

Cabot, PA - Six Concordia Visiting Nurses (CVN) employees were recently recognized by the Pennsylvania Homecare Association (PHA) for earning their certification as OASIS Specialists.

CVN staff members Sandi Kushner, RN; Kati Podnar, RN; Vicki Slater, RN; Barb Tasker, RN; Brenda R. Vensel, RN; and Susan Veon, RN completed a three-day seminar and passed a national exam to earn the certification, which was only earned by 25 other clinicians statewide.

The Certificate for OASIS Specialist-Clinical (COS-C) exam is the only nationally standardized test that evaluates a clinician's knowledge of the OASIS (Outcome and Assessment Information Set), which measures key assessment questions for an adult patient in home health care. PHA is a state trade association representing more than 400 home health organizations that provide care and support to individuals in their own homes.

With the new certification, these clinicians will help those in the field ensure that patient diagnoses are properly coded based on OASIS data and that recommendations for other necessary services can be provided.

"The changing landscape of home health care means that we need individuals who are experts in managing complex health care needs and maximizing our patients' positive outcomes," said Mary Gaydos, clinical director and chief operating officer at CVN. "We are extremely fortunate to have such a talented, educated, caring group of employees who are willing to go the extra mile to ensure quality care is delivered to all our patients."

CVN is a non-profit home health agency that has been offering Professional Home Health and Private Duty Home Care in western Pennsylvania since 1997.
