Groundbreaking at the Concordia of the South Hills Location

Mt. Lebanon Twp., PA - Concordia of the South Hills (CSH) has scheduled a Groundbreaking Ceremony on Monday, December 12 at 2 p.m. outside the Health Center.

A 3000 sq. ft. expansion to the Health Center wing will add a therapy gym. According to CEO Brian Hortert, "This expansion will enhance the care that we provide to our skilled population."

"Having therapy on each floor improves communication between therapists and nurses and allows short-term rehab patients access on the same floor as their accommodations," said Kay Frndak-Suder, administrator. Concordia of the South Hills is licensed for 46 skilled nursing beds, serving about 30 short-term rehab patients per day.

Martik Bros. will begin construction late next week. The goal is to have the addition completed by the end of April 2012.

Architects Noelker & Hull have designed a state-of-the-art, fully equipped kitchen for therapy simulation and a facelift in the nursing wing, increasing the size of the living room areas. Each of the floors will have a private dining room for families. In addition, flat screen TVs on the walls of the therapy gyms on each floor as well as new bedroom furniture and general upgrades for the 46 skilled nursing units is planned.

Concordia Lutheran Ministries, parent company for CSH, acquired the Continuing Care Retirement Community October 26, 2009. In addition to the skilled nursing component, the facility consists of 126 one- and two-bedroom independent living apartments, 48 personal care and 12 memory-support units.

Concordia Lutheran Ministries President and CEO Keith Frndak said, "Our mission is to serve people and God has blessed us with the opportunity to expand.  We continue to work to serve more and to serve better."
