The butterfly has long been a symbol of hope for people around the world. The caterpillar disappears into a cocoon, appearing dead to all around. Later, it emerges, having transformed into something more beautiful and powerful than it was. Early Christians adopted the butterfly as a symbol of resurrection, of Easter joy. The creature reminds us of its Creator, who sent His Son into unassuming human flesh, who died and was buried in a tomb, who rose again, and who promises life to all who trust in Him. The butterfly is a natural testimony to us of Jesus’ words, “Because I live, you shall also live.” (John 14:19b)
Our annual Butterfly Releases, hosted by Good Samaritan Hospice, a mission of Concordia, represent some of the many bereavement support services designed to guide the patient’s family and friends through the challenges of grief as they adjust to loss. This year, we will have two Memorial Service & Butterfly Release events:
Sunday, August 15, 2021 from 2 – 4 p.m. (Butler County)
Mt. Zion Baptist Church
Mt. Zion Baptist Church Road, Franklin Township, PA 16052
On Lake Arthur (near Moraine State Park)
Limited seating will be available in the sanctuary; the service will also be broadcast via speakers outside.
Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 2 – 4 p.m. (Beaver County)
Concordia at Villa St. Joseph
1030 W. State Street, Baden, PA 15005
This event will be held outdoors in front of the building underneath a large tent.
You are invited to honor and celebrate the memory of your loved ones through either of these unique Memorial Service events. The events are free to attend, with butterflies to be released at $10 each. Walk-ups are welcome, but pre-registration is highly encouraged by July 1 to guarantee a butterfly.
To register for either event, click here to be taken to our donation portal or call 724-352-1571, ext. 8355.
We will be following all mandates from national, state and local legislature and operating in compliance with the Centers for Disease Control and the PA Department of Health in regard to health and safety.
